​Streamlining processes with digitised forms.
Introduction
I was contracted to work at the NSW Department of Education as a UX/UI Designer.

During my time there, I worked on several projects, including social media campaigns, the School Website Service and the Digitisation of Paper Forms.
​
For the School Website Service, I received a training certificate for Adobe Experience Manager, ensuring that our systems worked well with this tool.
​
This case study is focused on the Digitisation of Paper Forms.
​
The main tool I used was Sketch.
Design System
In 2018, I developed a specialised design system for the NSW Department of Education's new digital forms initiative. While the department had existing digital standards for their websites, the forms project required a distinct yet complementary system.
​
Working in Sketch, I created a library of components, symbols, and typography that maintained brand consistency while addressing the unique requirements of digital forms. This became the dedicated design source of truth for the forms team.
Accessibility
Our commitment to accessibility went beyond standard WCAG 2.0 compliance. Through direct collaboration with vision-impaired users, we refined the forms to work seamlessly with screen readers and various assistive technologies.

One pivotal insight came from a user who had been blind since birth. During testing, we discovered that tab-based navigation, though common in web design, wasn't intuitive for him. This led us to implement pagination instead, creating a more inclusive experience.
This kind of user feedback was invaluable in shaping our design decisions and ensuring true accessibility for all users.
Visual QA
I also served as the bridge between design and development, ensuring pixel-perfect implementation of our design specs.
Working closely with our engineering team, I conducted thorough reviews of development builds, checking for visual consistency in spacing, typography, and component behavior. This attention to detail helped maintain the integrity of our design system across all implemented features.
