Optus
Bridging Connectivity. A Digital redesign for Optus.

The challenge
Optus was undergoing a major website relaunch that required a consistent design system across multiple product offerings and responsive contexts.
The project needed strict adherence to brand guidelines while ensuring components worked seamlessly across all devices, from desktop to mobile.
My role
Working as a UI Designer and Front-End Developer through an agency, I:
-
Managed and maintained the Optus website component library and Sketch design system
-
Designed responsive screens that were handed over to the development team
-
Created new components using Ractive.js while ensuring design consistency
-
Established image specifications and safe areas for responsive images
-
Created specification documents that communicated design standards across teams
-
Collaborated with multiple stakeholders in an Agile environment
-
Crafting innovative creative solutions that often included displaying a lot of data. For e.g., Enquiry History Logs, pictured below.

Key Contributions
Screen Design & Component Library Management
I maintained and expanded the design system while transforming UX wireframes into screens designed in Sketch. Through this process, I helped to ensure that all components adhered to Optus brand guidelines while functioning properly across different screen sizes.
This created consistency throughout the website and streamlined the design-to-development handoff process.

Responsive image standards

I developed specifications for responsive header images including safe areas, sizing requirements, and format guidelines. These specs became a critical communication tool between design teams company-wide, ensuring visual consistency while accommodating the technical requirements of responsive layouts.
Front-End Development
Using Ractive.js, I created new interactive components that balanced visual impact with technical performance. My dual role as both designer and developer allowed me to bridge communication gaps between teams and ensure the final implementation matched design intent.

The result
The redesigned Optus website successfully launched with a consistent look and feel across all product areas. The specs documentation that I created continued to guide design decisions beyond the initial launch, creating a lasting design framework for the company.
